Abstract

A hospital is an institution that is built, staffed, and equipped for the diagnosis of disease, treatment, both medical and surgical, of the sick and the injured, and for their housing during this process. Hospitals need to able to serve their intended purposes and to become a beautiful and essential shelter for human activities. Buildings also must resist various service loads, environmental stresses caused by temperature, humidity, wind and even those rare events of earthquakes or flooding. They must also provide a healthy indoor environment eliminating air pollutants, control of moisture and prevention of mould in our buildings; and they must maintain these functions over the full intended service life. This study aims to inspect health professional’s awareness on the effect, causes and prevent of mould and moisture control within the healthcare facility. Purposive sampling was done and a case study was selected. Primary data were collected through field work by participant observation, Questionnaire, and structure Interview. The result reveals shows that 47.1% of the medical personnel have a clear understanding of “Moisture Control and Mould Prevention (M.C.M.P) while 20.6% do not have the slightest idea on (M.C.M.P). Recommendation made is acquiring the Knowledge of mould prevention, its health significance and the factors that cause mould growth is key to enabling action by relevant stakeholders including building owners, developers, users and occupants – to maintain clean indoor air.
